Regular Kia maintenance fixes minor issues that develop over time, preventing them from worsening and creating more serious problems. As your Kia dealer, all our maintenance is performed by Kia-trained technicians using Kia-approved replacement parts. We want to tell you about a few examples of the types of maintenance we offer.

Engine Diagnostics

An engine diagnostic is used to identify issues affecting engine performance. Your Kia contains numerous sensors, each connected to an important component. The sensors provide information to your computer on system health and performance. They are very sensitive and can detect minute changes with their connected component and instantly inform your computer. The computer then triggers the check engine light.

Your computer logs the problem with an error code. Our technicians connect an ODB II scanner to your computer, which lists all error codes. These codes are compared to the code list for your Kia model, and they help pinpoint the source of the problem. This saves time, as the technicians can immediately focus on the problem and repair it.

Radiator Hose Replacement

The radiator is the center of your Kia’s cooling system. Engine heat is absorbed by fast-moving coolant and transferred to the radiator. Once inside the radiator, the hot coolant enters rows of thin metal tubes and is cooled by airflow through the grille. The radiator is connected to the cooling system by two thick, reinforced rubber hoses.

The hoses are engineered to withstand high temperatures for sustained periods, as hot coolant can easily reach temperatures above 300 F. As time passes, the hoses will lose flexibility, resulting in cracking. The cracks will expand and deepen, eventually causing a leak. As coolant leaks, your engine temperature will rise, and it could overheat. We’ll test the hoses and replace them if required.

Cabin Air Filter Replacement

The cabin air filter collects pollen, dirt, and other minute debris to prevent it from entering the cabin. It also filters any remaining contaminants from the air blown into your cabin by the AC. As time passes, the filter will become blocked, and you’ll notice a musty smell in the cabin. If you or your passengers have allergies, they can be triggered by the unfiltered air in the cabin.

This air filter usually needs replacement after 15,000 miles, but this can be reduced if you regularly drive in dusty conditions, as this causes the filter to clog faster. Our technicians can speedily fix this issue by replacing the dirty filter, and you’ll notice an immediate improvement in air quality.

Modern Kias are safer than ever before. Below is a rundown of the excellent Kia safety features to be found as standard or optional in Kia’s 2024 models.

Forward Collision Warning

With this feature, while driving, your car is constantly observing the road ahead, calculating the risk of collision with vehicles, pedestrians, and other potential obstacles. If a collision threat arises, such as the car ahead suddenly slowing, you’ll receive a clear instant warning, both audibly and visually, helping you to react in time to avoid an accident.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist

Should you fail to respond immediately to a detected collision threat, your car will apply the emergency brakes with the appropriate amount of force to avoid or at least mitigate the impact. This computerized system, which never drops its guard, often has superior reflexes to a human driver, who might be distracted at the moment a threat arises.

Lane Departure Warning

Accidentally wandering into a neighboring lane is a potential hazard on long drives when you might become drowsy. By constantly monitoring the lane markers, your car knows if you start to drift to one side. You’ll then receive a clear alert to ensure you steer back into a safer position.

Vehicle Stability Management

If you ever encounter a rough, bumpy, or wet patch of the road, your traction is kept firm by the vehicle’s stability management system, which uses cameras to observe the road and automatically makes necessary adjustments to the steering and brakes. This reduces your risk of skidding.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The quality of a car’s tires and their inflation is a huge factor in road safety. With the Tire Pressure Monitoring System, your car measures the pressure inside each tire and lets you know if the PSI inside any tire becomes too low or too high. You can then release or add air before the improper inflation causes a problem.

Highway Driving Assist and Highway Driving Pilot

These sophisticated features allow your car to drive automatically on stretches of the highway, accelerating and braking to keep a predetermined distance from the vehicle ahead while also steering itself to stay safely centered in the lane. If you wish to change lanes, you can simply use the indicator to signal your intention. Your car will then safely change lanes, all the while monitoring your blind spots and distances from other cars.

Enjoy a test drive of your preferred Kia model today at Courtesy Kia in Altoona, PA. Our friendly staff will be happy to give you a tour of these and many more safety features; nothing beats seeing them in action on the road.

The 2024 Kia EV9 is a remarkable EV SUV with a modern design and incredible performance capabilities. With flexible charging solutions, an impressive driving range, and tons of practical standard features, this fully electric SUV is a great choice for drivers who are on the road every day.

The base EV9 model is the Light RWD, which boasts a driving range of 230 miles. This model gets 99 MPGe in urban areas, 77 MPGe on the freeway, and 88 MPGe combined. The key to this EV’s great performance is the electric motor that generates 215 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This model can reach 60 MPH in 7.7 seconds.

The Light RWD comes with a charging port that’s compatible with Level 1, Level 2, and DC Fast charging. With a Level 1 charger, you can restore the battery to 100% in about 64 hours. A Level 2 charger can take the battery from 10% to 100% in just under seven hours. When you’re on the go, a public charging station with a Level 3 50 kW DC Fast Charger can fully charge the battery in about an hour.

Driver Assistance

The base EV9 has front and rear Park Distance Warning so you can hit the brakes to avoid a parking accident. The Lane Following Assist 2 system works with lane-keeping technology and steering assistance to keep you centered in your lane to prevent unintentional lane departure. This advanced system comes with a special sensor that senses when your hands are on the wheel for optimal safety.

This model has Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control, an advanced adaptive cruise control feature that works by maintaining a preset following distance at various traffic speeds and uses navigation information to predict changes in traffic flows. This adaptive cruise control feature can resume after the SUV comes to a complete stop and can reduce the vehicle’s speed on curves.

Interior Features

The EV9 Light RWD has a standard seven-passenger seating capacity. The interior space is incredibly comfortable with a three-zone climate control system with rear automatic climate control and rear air vents. The three-zone climate control system gives the driver, front passenger, and rear passengers the ability to customize individual air vent settings. This climate unit has an automatic de-fog system that reduces interior humidity to prevent window fogging.

Other key interior comfort features include three-stage heated and ventilated front seats for year-round comfort and convenient one-touch folding and sliding second-row seats. This model also has solar control glass to reduce interior heat build-up by blocking out UV rays.

A fully electric SUV like the EV9 takes you where you need to go in style and with zero carbon emissions. Test drive this model at Courtesy Kia in Altoona, PA.

When you switch on your AC, you expect it to provide refreshingly cold air. The AC consists of several components, including the compressor, condenser, and receiver-dryer, which can fail due to age or be damaged by wear and tear or accidents. As your Kia dealer, we can fix any AC problem for you. These are some examples of an AC not working that we can repair.

Jammed Compressor Clutch

The compressor is the most important part of your AC, as it pushes air and refrigerant through the system, so the air can be chilled before it blows into your cabin. It switches on and off several times during the process, and it’s controlled by the compressor clutch. If it’s quiet and you listen carefully, you may hear the slight click as the clutch works.

The clutch can wear out as it ages, causing it to jam. If the clutch jams in the on position, the compressor will continue to work and burn itself out. A clutch that jams in the off position prevents the AC from starting, and no air will blow into your cabin. Our technicians will examine the clutch, and we can quickly replace it so the AC will work again.

Refrigerant Leak

Refrigerant is the gas used in your AC. It converts from a gas to a liquid and then back to a gas during the cooling process. In its liquid state, the refrigerant absorbs water from the air so the air can be chilled. The AC operates under high pressure, and any damage to the system from rust or hard objects thrown up from the surface can cause a refrigerant leak.

If a leak develops, the refrigerant vanishes in contact with the outside air. We test for system leaks using a UV dye that we add to the refrigerant. Our technicians then monitor the refrigerant’s passage through the AC using a UV viewer until they find the leak site. Once the leak is identified, we’ll spell it and refill your refrigerant.

No Airflow

If you switch on the AC and there’s no airflow, this usually means a blockage in one of the vents. Air enters the AC through a vent positioned below the windshield. As time passes, this vent can become clogged with dirt, leaves, and other debris, preventing air from reaching the system. The vents leading into your cabin can also become blocked by debris drawn in with the air.

We’ll check the vents and remove any blockages, and your AC will deliver cold air again. We can also fix issues like blown fuses or broken fan blades, which could also prevent air from blowing into your cabin.

If your AC isn’t working, contact our service department today at Courtesy Kia in Altoona, PA.
